Pelantaro the brave liberator of the Mapuche
On the cold and cloudy morning of December 23, 1598, the forest of Curalaba seems to come alive, pouncing on the Spanish forces, emerges the image of the brave warrior Pelantaro, who collecting the life of the governor Martín García Óñez de Loyola, begins The Mapuche rebellion, with which he achieves the independence of his people.
Most of the cities south of Bio Bio were razed by this great leader. In the Bío Bío river, the boundary between the Spaniards and the Mapuches was bounded, a border that remained for more than two centuries.
