UOKE
The legend says , the giant UOKE, with the help of a club, was sinking each of the islands of the earth, but when he tried to do it with the last island, Rapa Nui, his club broke. This story has been passed from parents to children and among other things could have been interpreted as follows:
- Feeling the last survivors of the earth
- That the island from which they left was sinking
- On the trip to Rapa Nui they did not encounter any other island
- It was an extremely long trip that gave the feeling that there was nothing more
- That it was not worthwhile to undertake with their catamarans the conquest of new lands, since there would be no new lands
- A disincentive to build new catamarans
And perhaps for these reasons:
- The Rapa Nui would not have reached the shores of South America
- The culture changed from navigators to sculptors
And in consequence:
- The population increase at some point was going to collapse such a small island
- Dedicated to sculpture and not so much
